Can my dog get tapeworms even if she is on Comfortis?
ByLast time I gave it to her was on June 24th. A week later, I gave her First Shield as well because the fleas around here are crazy AND I treat my yard every 3-4 weeks. This has worked awesome for me, well them. I have another dog and he is flea-less, he also has more hair. They are majority outside dogs, fyi, except when it gets cold.
Reason I ask is she has been dragging her butt all day. I know this is usually a sign for worms.
I did however forget to give her, her worm shield this month, so i’m wondering if it could be hookworms? The first shield is suppose to help with that, i know, but we were really close to where Alex hit, the mosquitoes have been insane!
I also dont know if it has anything to do with it, but she had a limp, vet gave her anti-steroids it came back a couple days ago. She said it looked like she pulled a muscle or something like that…
I know I need to take her to the vet but probably wont give me an appt for a few days, I’m just curious what it could be.

Tapeworms can come from mice and rodents and things like that. So while it’s unlikely for her to get tapeworms if she’s on flea control, there’s a small possibility. You would probably see segments around her backside or in her poop.
Scooting often happens when if the anal sacs are full. If you let the vet know that she’s been scooting they might check those out for you. If your dog has softer stool for some reason they will often scoot also.
Worms aren’t really a common problem in my area but your area might be different. Around here we worm when they’re a puppy “just in case” and then check the poop once a year but fortunately it’s not all that common to find worms.
