can two pieces of Primor antibiotic pills killed my 59lbs english bulldog?
Bymy two year old english bulldog past away lastnight. he got an infection under his neck. but he was still good with eating drinking and play. just like an happy dog. i bought him to the vet yesterday, the doctor did a blood test on him, its an infection. so he gave me 8 pieces of primor antibiotic tablets, he said give him two tabs on the first day, then one everyday. i did exactly what he told me. then about couple hours after my dog took two pills. he started having breathing problems and diarrhea and drooling all over the floor. so i called vet, but they already closed, just when i went back to my room trying to find my cell phone to call the emergency vet office i noticed my dog was already past…. he died in less than 5 minutes after i found out there was something wrong with him. and about the antibiotic pills, i google it says, its 25mg for one pound of dog. and one tablets has 1200mg, and the doctor told me also descrip to give my dog two tablets on the first day. two tabs=2400mg that like for dogs weight 100 pounds, but my bulldog was only 59lbs. if my dog’s death is cause of over taking the antibiotics by my doctor, can i sue my vet?

Primor is an antibiotic used commonly for skin problems in dogs. it is two sulfa type antibiotics: Sulfadimethoxine/Ormetoprim/
However, it can cause a reaction similar to the one you describe. First would be an allergic reaction such as foot swelling, hives, scratching, and sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, or coma.
Can you sue your vet – I’m not a lawyer.

It may have been an allergic reaction to the Primor, but more likely whatever was on his neck cut off his breathing. He also may have had something else more serious going on. Consider getting an autopsy (necropsy) and finding out what happened. Chances are it isn’t something you can sue for, as you are supposed to give 2 the first dose.

As you have been advised when you have previously posted this question…you need to have a necropsy done on your dog to determine the cause of death.
On reading your pevious questions your dog has had health problems for the last 2 months. Problems with vomiting both food and water so he certainly was not a dog who enjoyed good health.
I know this doesn’t make his death any easier to deal with and I am very sorry for your loss..
Have a necropsy done and you will find the reason your dog died.

Much as again I sympathise for your terrible loss, you have already received any number of good answers to your previous numerous questions about this.
Please re-read my earlier answer – I have nothing more to add other than again to say you need to get an autopsy done on your dog, whether by the vet involved, or an independent vet and depending on what’s found, take it from there! It could just have been an individual bad reaction to this drug, but TALK IT OVER WITH YOUR VET!!!!!

I also am very sorry for your loss and realise that you have already posted this question.
However, even if it was the drug that caused his death, your vet would not of known that your dog would have a reaction to it, and you can bet your life that in the small print there will be something about this.
It is NOT your vet’s fault. If every vet was afraid of giving a drug through fear of being sued if the dog reacted to it then they would be afraid to treat them. The same applies to doctors treating us.
I realise that you are looking to blame someone and that is totally natural, but please stand back and think about it. Without treatment that infection could of killed him anyway.

Ok 5 questions on same topic, you’re obsessed! Contact a lawyer who would have an idea if you have a chance in court since the legal technicalities are likely more important than the medical ones. if he thinks you have a chance then you need evaluate if the trial will only bring you more expense & pain. Either way I wonder if you pain is affecting your judgment and a mental health counselor would be a goof idea
