How can I keep my dog from barking when he sees other dogs?
By adminI have a 12 lb. Cavashon mix, sweet, playful, friendly to all, dogs and people. If he is on a leash he barks loudly at other dogs. Even at people passing by.He does not growl, means no harm. The second he is released like in a dog park he is the friendliest dog there. It is ONLY when he is headed towards the park, sees other dogs and he can’t wait to get there.

If you are walking towards the other dog and your dog is barking turn back around. Then when your dog stops start walking towards the park again. Do this until he gets what is going on. If that doesn’t work maybe try distracting him with a ball or a treat. hope this helps!

Work on command recognition for his bark. Pick some kind of command signal and noise such as a loud shh with your finger at your lips or a ahh and your hand up. Do this anytime he barks. For extra assistance use treats in your hand so he won’t be focused on the other dog or bark, he will soon recognize that this is the command to not bark and should stop barking.

Your Dog is just being a Dog.When he barks at other Dogs or People he is just communicating and saying hello.Of course when he heads to the Park he can’t wait to get there to play with other Dogs or just to be free of the Leash and run around freely.

Okay well what I might suggest is that you buy a gentle leader. It looks like this http://www.petworldshop.com/pictures/pre… Every time your dog starts to get distracted or starts to bark, give a gentle tug and snap the dog out of it. I would also get a clicker, it looks something like this http://site.bestsafetyapparel.com/Images… and you just press it, and it makes a noise. Press it when the dog does something good, like if he doesn’t bark. When you click it give the dog a treat, then he will know, When i hear this noise, it means a treat.
Good luck

Hello, I had the same problem and I found this really cool device called BarkOff. What it is, is this ingenious, ultrasonic training aid that allows you to take control over your dog’s annoying, uncontrollable barking. Just switch on the BarkOff device and an ultrasonic signal, inaudible to human ears, instantly captures your dogs attention and immediately interrupts the barking pattern. You can use this to train him not to bark around other dogs, etc… Check it out, I found at: http://yousawitontv.yolasite.com/bark-off.php
