how do i stop my dog from barking at night?

By

My new dog wont stop barking at night, I am not allowed to keep him in my room.He sleeps in our garage, but has a very warm house.Any ideas on how to keep him quiet at night? Its been going on for a while. I go down and try to keep him quiet by petting him, and as soon as I go up he starts to bark again.

try giving him a piece of your clothing for the scent that way it feels like your with him.
also you just have to let him bark because every time you go down there when he barks, hes getting the message that when i bark someone comes to get me.

try taking him for a walk everyday at least 20 minutes and if necessary a small walk before
bed time. Gets the anxiety OUT!

See if that makes a difference.

I used to use an old fashioned clock that ticks LOUD for night time.

Ok first of all take a ticking clock and wrap it up in a towel… the sound makes a noise that stimulates the mothers heartbeating. Second, cover the cage/crate so there are no lights or noise for them to see or barely hear. I hope i helped!! I also put some toys in the crate…
Good Luck (:

Stop going down to comfort him. He will never get used to it if you keep going down to him. It’s almost like you’re “rewarding” him for it by petting him. If you leave him alone and ignore it he will stop. Try giving him something to keep him company at night. A Kong toy with kong stuff in it might be nice for him.

Heavy exercise before bed..no water after 6 pm…. and get one of those devices that puts out high whistle noise when there is excess barking. I think it’s called Bark Off or some such. He’s lonely and it’s sad that he can’t sleep in your room in a crate… You could also consider getting him a pet for company.. Maybe rescue another dog? Opposite sex, similar size..spayed or neutered.
