How much explication do mental excursions require?
ByJourneys
When I adventured far from shore
I felt a loss of self-control
I felt I touched another soul
I felt myself as less than whole.
I’ve seen that look in travelers’ eyes
as if they’d been that way before
as if they’d roam forever more
as if they needed to explore.
I’ve been to children’s yesterdays
where starlight shines in every eye
where rainbows fill the morning sky
where even cats and dogs can fly.
I’ve heard the stirrings of the dead
whose faces fill a dismal day
whose voices echo neath the quay
whose presence is a breath away.

This is very good. Just enough lightness in the 3rd stanza to make it more about thinking and sensing than about the emotions evoked. Anaphora you, I gives a star and a salute!

Nicely written. A smooth flowing piece with some things to mull while reading. And yes, cats and dogs do fly!

Your experiment is a success! I love the journey in every stanza and feel the repetition enhances the beauty and intensity of this poem that has taken my breath away!
