How to stop a puppy from biting an adult dog?

By

I have a 4 year old corgi mix, bella, and just adopted an 8wk old beagle mix, zoey. Zoey is constantly biting at bella’s legs, chest, even “launching” herself at bella’s face. Bella is a really laid back dog, and my family cannot see her biting zoey back or really putting her in her place. All she does is run away which gets zoey chasing her. Any Ideas?

Keep them seperated and or buy some toys and play with your puppy to distract it from attacking the other dog, and also try telling her off for doing that every time she does it firmly. If you keep at it she should stop it.

thats just typical puppy behavior. she should outgrow it but if you want to break her of it sooner train her just like you would with any other command. Let her know when she is doing something wrong and reward her for behaving.

i’m afraid it is mostly bella’s responsibility if you want your dogs to develop a healthy relationship. if it gets to be too much for the older dog, she’ll let your puppy know.

they will work it out.. when the pup sees that bella doesn’t want to play,, she will move on to other things… remember,, you now have a hunting dog… who will need tremendous amounts of exercise….

as someone said, this is how puppies play, and zoey has to put the pup in it’s place. right now bella is the alpha dog, but you are supposed to be pack leader. when you feed them or give treats, always put bella first to acknowledge she’s alpha dog.

If you feel a need to intervene, when bella starts to run away, call her to YOU instead and just talk to her and give her some pets. If you’re petting her and talking to her, she won’t be running and zoey can’t chase her.

occasionally a younger dog takes over as alpha at a young age, but that is not common. puppies sometimes have to be taught not to play biting games with the humans in the pack, but the dogs generally put up with it for a while and then clamp down and make the puppies stop. They also finally stop as they mature.

Bella will need to learn to yelp before running away, that way Zoey will realize that she has actually hurt Bella. Right now, Zoey things that Bella’s running away is part of the game. Do not get involved unless Bella comes running towards you. Even then, you would need to wait till the puppy is older, but at that time, you could simply put the puppy down and end the play session. In the litter, puppies often play by biting at each other, and they will bite at there mother as well, especially the chest and face. The mother rarely does anything unless she gets really aggitate, and then it will be a quick growl and snap, but she won’t hurt the puppy. With each other, the puppies will do the same but when one bites another too hard, the one being bitten will often yelp really load and then run away. After a couple times of this, the puppy doing the biting will realize that if it wants to play, it must not bite so hard

haha, my shih tzu does that to my chihuahua and even when my chihuahua doesnt just laid back she keep going for it, thats just normal puppy behavior, hopefully she will stop doing it or maybe your dog will put her on her place, but like I said thats not a guarante that she will stop, but everytime I see my pup doing it I say NO!! with really strong voice and she stops, just for a little bit, but she does.

just leave them when i got my dog he did the same to the 6 year old dog next door and she’s relay laid back too and wouldn’t put him in his place. after a while he just stoped because he wanted to play and she wouldn’t and just walked/ran away. she will probably get bored and stop it after a while.
