is it okay to give my dog heart worm medication(preventative) after being off it for a few months?
Bydue to the current state of the job market in my area both my girlfriend and I were laid off of work for a few months. things had to be cut back in order to make ends meet and one of those things was my dogs heart guard medication. now before anyone gets upset the decision was made due to the fact that it has been cold and dry for the past few months or so which means no mosquitoes in the area(the #1 cause of heart worm). now that things are better financially and it is heating up again the first thing i plan on doing is getting him back on heart guard. should i get him checked out first to make sure he(my dog) is safe to put back on it? or is it okay if he seems perfectly normal and there has been absolutely no mosquitoes in our area? i don’t want to waste money on a vet visit if there is no need to go, but if its the general consensus then i will to be on the safe side.
thanks in advance.

My vet actually will not give me the Interceptor (worm medication for heartworm, along with 3 other types of worms) without doing an annual heartworm blood test. I was told it is the law here (Penna).
You could call the vet and ask if it is safe to do this.
And, in your area, if it is legal!

I know it would be fine where I live. Perhaps just call into the vet and ask them? (Like just walk in, then may be able to answer).
