Is there a way to keep my dog from shedding so much?
ByWe just moved to a new state with colder temperatures and she seems to be shedding much more than usual. She is a Red Healer/ Australian Shepherd mix and is about six years old. How much shedding is normal and is there any way to control it?

buy a lint roller you know the thing that removes thread and lint from your shirt of pants and rub it on your dog it will take off the detached fur and it wont shave your dog

I would check with a vet, since sometimes increased shedding can be a sign of a nutritional problem.
If you can rule that out, and it’s just an inconvenience, not a health issue, ask the vet to recommend a supplement to reduce shedding. They can make a big difference. My basset is on one for her skin allergies, and I almost never see her hair on the furniture, or on me.

He shouldn’t be shedding as much now, in the winter they build up their fur for colder temperatures, You should brush him at least once a week, this will prevent clumping and matting.Especially during the warmer months when they loose that winter coat.

Her fur is getting thicker in prep for the colder climate. She is losing her summer coat. Using a high quality shampoo and brushing her on a regular basis is just about the only thing you can do to minimize her shedding. You can get a good shampoo over the counter at any vet clinic in your area. Don’t get one from the pet store. They have way too much alcohol and other chemicals that can alter the ph of her skin. GL

His coat is getting acclimated to the cold. You can brush him more.

One of the best things to try,is increase the omega 3 and 6 fatty acids in your dogs diet.Many dog foods either have none,or not enough.
Canned salmon is a great source of omegas.You can also get supplements at most pet stores,either in pill form,or as a supplement to be sprayed or sprinkled directly on the food.
I have owned labs for many years,and my current Lab gets about one half cup of salmon mixed in with her food every day.It has cut down on her shedding quite a bit.The omegas also help with dry skin,and will help keep your dogs coat shiny and soft.

try a multivitamin for dogs, that may help
