Use a “zoom groom” brush that you can buy at petsmart or online at amazon.com. It’s a little rubber brush that will take off all the dead hair and undercoat. It’s the best thing I’ve used, and I’ve tried everything. The best part is, it only costs $9. It has saved me TONS of money on professional grooming for my corgi, who sheds year round. Can be used dry as a regular brush or as a shampoo brush while bathing.
first take a look at what you are feeding, it does make a difference, high quality foods result in less shedding (try http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com to see what is considered the best) and regular grooming. I have dobes but there is less hair around the house when I groom them weekly.
I love the long-haired dachshunds. I would get those de-shedder things you see on the commercial. I would do it everyday so its fur gets shiny and clean. You can’t stop shedding but you can get rid of it. Maybbe if you just de-shedit it wit that special comb thing everyday it will make a difference!
There are over the counter things you can get that help shedding – of course I’m sure you know that brushing every day is the best help.
There are also supplements, but I don’t know how well they work – that being said. I always added just a little bit of bacon grease or olive oil to my dogs food once or twice a week to help their coat, my vet recommended it and it really did keep them shiny and less sheddy – and I had beagles, they shed something awful!
No there’s nothing you can put on her to lessen the shedding but you can brush her every day which should help. Also give her a good quality food to help her have a good coat.
No there is nothing you can give her the best thing you can do is start making it a habit to brush out her hair everyday this will make a world of a difference.
Just a good brushing daily. However I did use some Groomers Royal Jelly Shampoo on my heavily shedding dog a few weeks ago and it stopped so much hair coming off him.
I have a berner who sheds so much. He gets groomed daily and i could do this all day and still more fur would come out. He is going through a coat change from puppy to adult. We have black fur everywhere, carpets, bathroom and even in our food. Its something that we just put up with..
He gets bathed every 2 weeks which helps the new growth of fur on top of the combing and brushing.. I’ve not heard anything that would help.
there is a thing called a Furmanatior at petsmart. brush your dog with it and it sheds less. to completly get rid of shedding ask a vet for some medicine
Dogs shed twice a year and it’s triggered by changes in sunlight. So, they typically shed in the spring and the fall when the days get longer or shorter. Daily brushing with the correct type of brush will help. A bath will loosen the hair a bit so you can brush it better. A lot of people recommend the occasional egg or a bit or oil or butter to improve the coat, but shedding is really normal. If you are feeding a diet or senior dogfood, those have lower fats in them, and their coats IME tend to be pretty bad on those. If your dog is overweight, better to feed regular dogfood but cut back on the amount, rather than putting them on diet foods. You do know, too, that there’s a reason that there’s a dachshund on the cover of the veterinary orthopedic textbook– so do keep those dachshunds lean!
I had a long haired doxie for 15 years. She was the love of my life (Penny Girl) We had her shaved down 2 times a year. She loved it and we loved it! Her beautiful “featheres” would grow back in and we had no shedding for about 6 months. When we had the shedding problem again it was off to the groomer!
She was an inside dog so the cold winter was not a problem while she had “short” hair. Good luck with it. Give your doxie a hug from me. We miss ours.
There really is nothing you can do to stop shedding, but you may try to control the shedding.
Certain breeds of course shed more than others, and there is ABSOLUTELY no dog out there that doesn’t shed…unless its a Mexican Hairless.
Regular brushing will help control where all that fur goes. If you take five minutes a day and give her a quick brush… that will take all the loose hairs out and will help a bit.
Try feeding her foods rich in Omega fats… salmon is good for this. The omegas are great for the health of their skin and coat.
Other than that..grin and ….bare… (lol) it.
There are some thing you can do to help lessen the shedding.
First you need to pick out an appropriate brush fro your dog. I find for soft bushy coats the metal wire brushes work best and for wiry hair the hard bristle brushes work best.
Next you want to brush your dog every few days and when they are blowing their coat (the heavy shedding) you want to brush them 2-3 times a day until they are done.
Brush with the hair first. After that start at the top (head) and go in sections brushing against the hair. This help to pick up all the dead hair and the undercoat. Once you are done the section brush down with the hair again and then do another section. Don’t forget to empty the brush when it is full. Do this all over the dogs body.
There are many different kinds of brushes and tools you can use to help with shedding coats…take a look next time you are at a pet store and see if you can find one that is best for your dog and its coat.
And lastly you can also give your dog a bath after you brush it to get any extra hair you missed. But don’t use the bath all the time. and please do it after brushing..if you do it before you could block the drain causing further problems.

I would just groom her daily, and make sure that she is getting a high quality dog food.
