My dog’s eyes look a little foggy?
ByToday i noticed that my dog’s eyes weren’t as brown as usual and seemed to have a very light fog in them, what possible tests can i do at home to see what is happening? She’s a golden German Shepherd with some chow in her as she has a black spotted tongue. We also there believe there are a few more breeds involved in her genetic makeup but we aren’t sure. feel free to ask questions

It could be the start of Cataracts. There is nothing to do at home to test this dog. Only a Vet can tell for sure.

if she is beginning to get older, her eyesight may be getting worse. this is pretty common in dogs. if you have been noticing her not seeing the little details that she used to, you may want to go to a vet and get her eyes checked. i don’t know what they may suggest, but they may be able to do something to slow this down.

most likely cataracts, depending on the breeding genetics they can show up quite early or as the dog becomes older. i don’t think they do anything for them, it will usually cause blindness.

try doing a flinch test on her. flick your finger at her eyes, one at a time, cover one and flick your fingers towards her eye but not close enough that it would touch her fur or eyes…. if she flinches, at least she can still see. vets do this all the time. if she has a film, if could be the start of cataracts. it would help to know how old she is. but eye disease can start at any age. here is a link to a discription of cataracts and it also shows that german shepherds can get it fairly early —>http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1604+1606&aid=407 it also shows that it can be genetic to where it devlops early, or it can be devloped over time, which usually happens when they are older. i found this article informative, and i dont even have a dog with the problem… jus check it out

Sounds like cataracts.
How old is your dog? Cataracts usually happen in older/senior dogs.
Her vision isn’t as clear/sharp, but she can still see.
There is a surgery for it, but it’s expensive and not very common..
Nothing you can do at home.
Check with a vet, but no rush. There’s not much to do for them.
