Oh why?! Oh why oh why oh why?! Everyone wants to breed their dogs!?

By

Ok, so seriously, WHY does it seem everyone who should not wants to breed their dog?

Secondary question, what are ALL the costs, be it definite or variable (eg emergency during labor) that go into breeding and properly caring for a litter of puppies?

Yep every penny I get goes into my dogs every pup I sell, the money goes back into my dogs. I AM a responsible breeder. My dogs are health & temperament tested. All my dogs see a VET, the ones that are not breeding quality are spayed/neutered. My pups are to be returned to me if new owners no longer want or can care for them. They are tested before breeding for “doggie STD’s” not to mention, ALL my dogs live in my home with me. You will NEVER find a single one of my puppies/dogs in a shelter, therefore it is none of your business what I do with my dogs!

ADD-Oh & since Chihuahua’s do not perform a certain function other than being your companion as long as they are physically healthy & mentally sound, that’s all that matters.
Yes they are all AKC registered & I belong to the Chihuahua club of America, what else do you want to know?

Add-how about, NO. & you have no business telling me what I should be doing. There are people out there that want a well-bred & friendly Chihuahua, not some abused neglected poorly bred one. & those people you say who would adopt if I didn’t breed….no your wrong there too, they’d just go to a puppy mill or BYB, to make things even worse. A shelter dog isn’t the right choice for everyone. Sorry, but I can only be responsible for my dogs/pups. You can’t blame responsible breeders for overpopulation.

btw, I don’t use my dogs for money, like I said, most of the time it all goes back into the care & health of my dogs/pups. Often I lose money, I do this because I love the breed, not money, I have a wonderful husband who is very supportive.
Who said I don’t have a job? That’s your assumption! I am a housekeeper in my spare time & drive people who can’t drive, to their destinations, No, I’m not a taxi driver..lol

I’m ignorant?…lol you are just making me laugh now!
I’m done, I don’t have to answer to you or anyone else. I’ll do what I do & be perfectly happy doing it, so go ahead & try to rid the world of injustice, have fun doing it. I don’t have to breed to your standards so you can p*ss off now….lmao
& yes ther are plenty of people out there who prefer not to adopt. There are plenty of homeless children, does that mean we should stop having our own biological offspring? My point is you are fighting a losing battle with me. I’m not a tree-hugging Vegan, so you are not going to throw me off, sorry. I’m intelligent enough to be aware if I was doing something wrong with breeding & I’m not so that’s all that matters to me.

@Schnauzer mom- actually it really doesn’t matter if I adopt or not once again that’s nobody’s business, but my own, but to answer your Q. actually one of my Chihuahua’s is a rescue from a puppy mill & she is spayed & cost me a fortune at the VET in surgeries, but I love her & she has a wonderful life now.

The problem with this world is that there are too many DAMN people on it…that is what is disgusting. My animals are not disposable to me, I love animals with all my heart, with that said I cannot help what some ignorant @ss irresponsible owner does. most shelter dogs are stray mutts, lost pets, & surrenders, what does that have to do with responsible breeding?

@ Tiny Paws I also donate to my local shelter whenever I can, so YOU need to shut your mouth & worry about what you do, & not everyone else.

Ego and money making.

People like that shouldn’t even own dogs.

Because they are IRRESPONSIBLE people who think their dogs are their personal ATMs.

Chirgirl:
How about you stop breeding and let SHELTER dogs find homes?? That sounds like great idea to me!

I don’t know ALL the costs because I will NEVER be a breeder. Not even reputable. I’ll rather let others save a life by adopting a shelter dog…I don’t need to use my dogs to make money…I have my own job, I can support myself

Ok chigirl, if you say so. “sure”…you didn’t mention if they had any championship titles? thats says enough. gnite

WOW, so who cares right?? MANY people have the ignorant mentality you have. Who wants a neglected/abused dog right? He doesn’t deserve a chance, so let me breed just because I “think” most people don’t prefer shelter dogs (thats your way of thinking).

sharnehorse:
How about you shut your mouth??
If you were more RESPONSIBLE you wouldn’t be breeding your dog with a roached back like you mentioned in your previous question!

You can NEVER compare humans to animals…so YOU get your facts straight little girl. You and chigirl need to find a real job. Breeding your poorly bred chihuahuas is not a job…sorry to burst your bubble.

I volunteer in a shelter and there are TONS of purebreds as well. There are like 20 purebred GSDs where I volunteer. Go volunteer before you open your mouth again and take chigirl with you

it costs me a Grand or two with every litter. You aren’t suppose to make money when breeding a dog. And only do it to bettert he breed. wether it be my show/therapy collie or a rescued stray thats pregnant it costs me the same for prenatual care, and then for aftert he birth, till age nine weeks those puppies are my care and my job to take care of get worming and shots done and multiple tests ran. eyes, ears, lungs, everything. it costs like I said a grand or two every litter to get the work done.

6

People think that their dog is oh so special and their sweet little fluffy would have wonderful little babies that will act just like her! Of course, these are the same people that cover their ears when told about the homeless pet crisis. Their adorable, sweet dog, of course, is not adding to the pet crisis because, you know, their dog is just adorable, with local pounds being completely empty of adorable dogs these BYBs are only making sure we don’t run out of them. Because, we definately are. The 5 million animals being pts each year is just a big lie, you know.

7

They are misinformed, thinking its a easy way to make some quick bucks. They have no ideal on how much MONEY goes into the pre-breeding stage- like health testings, etc. And on top of that, if the breeder travels to show their dogs, that’s travel expense. Breeding, done right, is not very profitable, they barely come out ahead even if they do.

As to your secondary question, sorry I’ve no ideal, as I’m not a breeder and probably won’t ever be. From what I’ve gathered, its pretty expensive, all together. I mean if someone bred Chihuahuas and they needed an emergency c-section, that’s at least 2,000 right there. If the breeder used a stud, then theres another, I’m not sure I’m going to say $1000, but I still think that’s cheap, I bet a champion stud would be much more. So that right there alone is 3,000( again just estimating, it could be well over 5,000) not to mention exams on the female and puppy care: shots, worming, etc. So I’m just going to throw a figure out there, and say 10,000, give or take more, since I’m not sure since I’vent bred. And some times breeders have to pay for emergency procedures for puppies and such.

Maybe another answerer has a better answer for the 2nd question, I’ve no experience in breeding so I’m sorry lol, I tried my best.

people are so stupid that are still breeding these damn dogs haven’t we got enough dogs in cats in this world it’s disgusting
as soon as the dog is not a puppy anymore.
the new owner doesn’t want them anymore or gives up on training and
gets rid of them. Dogs and cats are needing help and here come more
and more puppies, people breeding away so they can buy a cute new dress or a new tv whatever there spendin it on.
Today I heard on the news about a rescue getting charges with animals cruelty and all 107 dogs and 17 cats will more than likey be put down because they had leptospirosis.Alot of dogs are sitting in the shelters on cold floors cement kennels in cold cement buildings.
Stop Breeding ffs

Far too many of them are looking for a source of income – it’s considered illegal in most states for a woman to prostitute herself, but they can pimp their dogs out no problem.

Some of them want their kids to see “the miracle of life”. Personally I think they ought to take them down to the municipal shelter so they can see “the reality of death” while they’re at it.

Hey ChiGirl – are you active in rescue, aside from taking your own pups back? You’re adding to the overpopulation, are you doing your part to offset that?

10

i stud my dog, not out of profit but out of bettering the breed. the money i make from studding does go to my foster dogs,

WHY DO RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS HAVE TO GET CRITICUIZED FROM OTHER PEOPLE’S MISTAKES…. MOST OF THE DOGS IN SHELTERS R MIXED BREEDS. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE CRITIZING PEOPLE

well…. there is too many people in the world… why wont we all stop having babies for a while and help the homeless people

11

I dont know why so many people want to breed there dogs besides for money.. their are so many animals that need homes at shelters and rescues… stop over populating please!

12

i completely see where you are coming from, a majority of these so called “breeders” are breeding for all the wrong reasons not to mention the puppy mills and inbred trash that over breed the mothers and in some cases killing them its astonishing. this on top of the countless other dog owners that have no intention of breeding their pet but some how let their dog accidentally get pregnant without the slightest clue of how to handle a litter. and i have all the sympathy for these poor shelter dogs who dont get adopted out, its sad.

but then again, the registered breeders who know what they are doing are not really doing anything wrong. as much as i feel for the shelter dogs, when i went to buy my little dachshund, i went to a breeder rather than pet stores (who usually get pups from puppy mills) or to the shelter. ugh how can i explain, um, ok take human children for example, there are thousands of homeless children in the world who need you and the majority of them are older, like 7 or 8. theres not as many infants. now you can adopt and older child who will still love you as a parent but yet its different from having an infant that grows up seeing only you and had loved no one else like they do you. its the same thing with pups, i bought a few week old puppy so it would grow to only know me as its mother, it creates a stronger bond, and even though an older shelter dog would love you immensely, its just different.

i hope that made sense, and some might not agree with my theory but thats all it is.. a theory.

13

I do not want to breed that is why my dog’s are going to the vet in three weeks to get fixed. both the male and the female. I don’t do puppies.

14

Personally, Change, I dont like dogs, so in this case, I agree – too many dogs with too many inept owners.

15

I agree!! I don’t get it because if you do it properly then it is expensive with puppy vet bills, puppy shots, etc…
