My dog used to have a big problem with this. I rescued him off a back porch in the middle of winter. I had to bring him out of a state of being completely shut down. The next big issue he and I faced was his seperation anxiety. After a temperpedic mattress, ralph lauren comforter, 100+ blinds, pillows, stuff animals, rugs, and w/e else he could get to were destroyed, something had to be done. Behavior modification really helped him. He’s prob one of the best dogs I’ve ever had.

@DanielRemains not always. I work at a shelter. When people leave animals, I’ve seen dogs lose it. The dogs are panicked.

@toxiclullaby64 I really agree. It bothers me to know Frank is upset when I’m away (even if there are others home). It isn’t severe, but it’s there. If he sees me even reach for my coat or keys he jumps up and positions himself at the door.
I don’t know if this would work for your dog, but I use lavender essential oil for a nervous cat I have. Just a drop or two every couple days seems to relax him. Although it is a very different issue, Lavender is known for its soothing qualities. Good luck!

This really doesn’t help me. I need more information. I’ve already tried the couple of things they suggested.

@elenavlada
My dog hasn’t gotten over this and he is nearly seven. Even when other people are still in the house he will sit at the door and cry until I come home. Nothing anyone can do consoles him.
Also, not taking an animals pain serious is just being an ass..

DO NOT listen to someone who says…”Don’t take it seriously” REALLY?! I have a 5 yr choc lab who has separation anxiety & it is a REAL disorder that is a learned behavior & it it the OWNERS RESPONSIBILTY to ‘unlearn’ the behavior!! I am also a vet tech & we have clients who’s dogs also suffer from this disorder & one of them jumped through a plate glass window after its’ owner had left. SEEK PROFESSIONAL TRAINING WHO ENFORCES POSITIVE TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DONT TAKE THE SEPREATION ANXIETY SEROUSLY…why? i had a puppy who had this bad she got over it, because i got over it, when leaving your dog, dont feel sad, just be happy that you have a life besides you dog. A good way to solve this problem is, before you leave, you can actualy leave the dog in a cage, no tiny crates, and as you leave the dog, you feed a dog with a meal, and you say bye, and its done!.usualy they just sleep after a meal. get over it!

Seeing a dog upset for any reason makes us uneasy.

this is spot on with me and my dog. its gonna be my first time i seperate from him for 24 hours because i checked out the dog daycare around here and i would rather have him get freaked out then send him there, it was HORRIBLE! i got a 9 month old lhasa apso, and there were montagnais or however you spell it running free, showing severe signs of agression just from the window, not to mention no one was even there and all of the lights were off yet the dogs were roaming free.

Dogs do this when they are too spoiled IMO.
