My neighbor threatened me I was afraid when I received the first 2 threats, but I started to feel better since my neighbor hadn’t come near me for about three weeks, I’ll explain all the threats first-
About three weeks ago my neighbor threatened me on two occasions. I am sixteen. First, there was some confusion about who called the cops on him about his aggressive dog somehow he thought it was my family, and he came to my house when I was home alone, and was yelling at me, so I told him he had to leave, and he physically held the door open and said “If I get another call from the police our next visit won’t be so pleasant. I know when your parents aren’t home, so be careful next time” and then he left with that. I was scared and was going to tell my dad, but then the day after that when I went to take care of my goats and chickens he approached me again (this time I wasn’t home alone, but I was outside alone), and he threatened me once more again. I told him to leave me alone and went to walk passed him, but he grabbed my shoulder and shoved me against my chain-link fence, and said “I know you were going to tell your dad about our conversation, but I would recommend you didn’t.”
I wasn’t sure what to do, so I just said “I promise I won’t tell him.”
Then he said “Good, because if I find out you did I will come to your house and I won’t only beat the F$#% out of you. Do you get what I am telling you?” I was terrified by this point and just nodded my head in agreement. Then he said “Good girl, remember your place. I don’t want to hurt you. Be a shame to hurt that pretty face.” Then he left again.
I wasn’t sure what, and went back into my house. I was going to tell, but I was scared, and would rather not deal with him, so I didn’t tell. I asked pervious questions is I should tell the police or not, but after looking at them I became convinced that calling the police would be a bad idea since they might not do anything, and then I will be in a lot more danger. I didn’t tell anyone and thought he would leave me alone, which he did. He left me alone for three whole weeks, and honestly thought the problem just evened itself out, and went away, but this morning I was outside walking to my car getting ready to go to school (my parents weren’t home, but I was leaving in a few moments). I got to my car, and unlocked the door, but my neighbor grabbed pulling me away from my car, it didn’t hurt, but I got scared, he was waiting for me to come out of my house, he has already threatened that he knew when my parents weren’t home, so I was terrified. He shoved me against the car door.
“I didn’t tell,” I said almost automatically.
“I know you didn’t tell, love, but we have to make sure.” He explained to me. I tried to push him back, but he pushed me back again, and hit me in my stomach pretty hard, it caught me off guard, it didn’t leave a mark, but it hurt. I wasn’t even sure what to do.
I said “I need to go to school, Mr. ——–“ I looked around helplessly for at least someone to be outside, but there was no one. I tried to grab my pepper spray from my bag carefully without him noticing, but he pressed himself against me taking the pepper spray from my hands, and threw it off to a side.
“Let’s not do that, sweetie, that is mean.” He told me. I couldn’t even answer I got so scared, but almost like a miracle a car pulled into the driveway next to my house. He pulled himself off of me, and took a few steps backwards looking at my other neighbor getting out of his car. He basically growled under breath and looked back to me. “It doesn’t matter. Don’t do anything that you’ll regret. Do I make myself clear? Otherwise you’ll have to make it up to me, okay? Don’t tell anyone because I will kill you. I will kill your family too, if you make me, Got it?”
“Yes,” I agreed, and he walked away.
I got back in my car, and actually started to cry while I driving to my school. I was so jittery the whole time that he would be waiting for me when I got home, but he wasn’t. I need to talk to the police, I know, but the police haven’t been very helpful around my neighborhood, and I don’t think they would even take me seriously, so what the hell am I supposed to do? How do I deal with this man? Do I try to ignore it and avoid him? Hope it will just go away. I still have no proof that he is doing any of this, and so the police won’t take me literally then my neighbor will just found out I told, and hurt me, right? So what do I do instead? My neighbor used to be a fireman, so wouldn’t that make it more difficult to convict him? He might still be a fireman, but I don’t think so anymore I don’t think I have ever seen him actually working or leaving for work, I don’t even know where he gets his income. What should I be doing to deal with this? I don’t know what would have happened if that car hadn’t showed up.
