my dog has heart worms and has been panting very heavy for a week now. what should I do?
Posted by: | CommentsI just got our dog 3 weeks ago, she is 8 yrs old. She has been with family, she came to me pregnant and with heart worms. She has delivered 2 puppies last Saturday, I have been feeding them and letting her taking care of them and stay with them, it seems as though they weren’t getting enough milk and one almost died. Since she has delivered the puppies, she has been breathing very heavily, and has developed a slight cough. Is she dieing? What can I do to make her more comfortable? Should I have her put to sleep?
I took her to the vet a week ago and that’s how we found out she had heart worms, he also told us that she has advanced heart worms. he told us that the treatment for her would cost us around 400.00 and he could not guarantee that she would survive. She is very weak and still trying to care for her puppies, i don’t want to take them away from her, that might stress her out even more. I don’t want to put my dog to sleep, shes been with the family for 8 years, but I also cant afford a 400.00 vet bill that we ain’t sure will work either. I want her to be comfortable, no pain…
How long does it take a dog to free of tapeworms after it has been treated?
Posted by: | CommentsI have a puppy that has tapeworms. The vet gave her an oral treatment yesterday. Since tapeworm “seeds” are released from the butt when they are sleeping, I worry about the puppy sharing my bed or sitting on my furniture.
We washed the sheets and blankets once I realized she was infected. How long should I have to wait to snuggle with her again without getting tapeworm “extract” in my bed?
I think the puppy is 6 months old. She was abandoned by the neighbors, who gave her no vet attention. The tapeworms I saw were very long and there were many.
The puppy now lives inside with us. She was treated for all worms and is now on heartguard and flea meds. She does not have fleas.
I wasn’t worried about getting tapeworm, more grossed out about hygiene issues. Yuck.
Have you ever been called an irresponsible dog owner for a ridiculous reason?
Posted by: | CommentsOk there’s a list of discernable qualities that make a person an irresponsible dog owner. Neglect, abuse, ignorance of dog’s needs, etc.
But have you ever been called irresponsible for something not on the list?
I can say I’ve been called irresponsible for
1. Dropping the leash when my dog chased a cat up the tree. I had the leash in my hand again in the blink of an eye (stepped on it. lol)
2. Taking my dog to a dog park. Ok I understand the controversy here. I think. My dog park is clean…um most of the time… the same people come with their same dogs. The dogs have a pack and understand/respect each other. When my dog is involved in a problem I get my dog under control quickly. (Nothing like this has happened, though.) i’m irresponsible for just being in the dog park.
3. Neutering my dog????!?!?!?
4. Not getting him proper vet care. Someone saw a pea sized lump on his side and tsk-ed me and walked off shaking her head. He had surgery scheduled to remove it the very next day.
5. Letting my dog ride in the car? No, not leaving him in the parking lot while I go shop. Just riding in the car, period. How else am I supposed to get him to the dog park?
6. For having a big dog. HUH?!?!? He’s a lab for one thing. For another thing what has size to do with anything at all? He’s a well-mannered 80 lb lab. LOL. (I’m 5’2″ if that means anything. LOL)
Also, has anyone ever come to blows over such a thing?
Can’t wait to read your answers.
@ Pruin – I’m a bit guilty of that. LOL Sorry. But I’m learning.
I have spoken up on behalf of a dog who was called from the other end of a 2 acre dog park, alpha rolled and then bitch slapped across the muzzle 3 times. For what i don’t know. That’s not training. still mad about it. It was a year ago. LOL
that’s the only time Ive ever actually said anything to an owner though.
@ Dog Lady. That’s the thing. I do live in a somehwat dog friendly area. Maybe that’s what makes these a bit more of a shock to me. LOL But then I see real irresponsibility quite often. Maybe it’s just that a person sees it so much that it’s all they see. LOL Or they just don’t own dogs and never have. Maybe they see them as fowl beasts or something. I don’t know. It’s easier to give advise about something you know nothing about. Oh this is fun.
2 Crisco – Oh I forgot. I had that one too. I had to pick up my brother from work one night. We’ve had 90+ degrees all summer, but on this night it was raining and a cool 76 (It was around 2 am. I always take my dog with me when I pick up bro that late just for show). While I was waiting for my brother to come out, I ran over to the dumpster to throw something away and left the dog in the car. When I turned around, there was a suit standing by my car trying to pet my dog, saying “OMG don’t die in the car, what do I do what do I do?” Ugh. I can’t believe I forgot that one.
@ Gina – I’ve got a neighbor who lets her wiener dog (yes this one is a wiener dog, not a Dachshund. LOL) run rampant all over the neighborhood, yet she eyes me with that evil stare when I walk passed with my big dog. At least the wiener dog is neutered. LOL
AAAACK! I can’t pick a best answer!!!
Had an auto accident my car is at storage yard during claim process, it been raining!!!?
Posted by: | CommentsI want to know since the car is parked at the garage yard, which DOES NOT have cover. It been raining a lots for the past weeks, either small or cats and dogs rain and I am afraid the rain will damage my car??!! Will that have effect? Still in the process of claim and had not yet heard back or reach a settlement yet. I believe one side of insurance companies already came out to inspect the car and consider it “total loss” in that case, cannot be repair,, so will it be all right for the car to be in the rain? Thanks
I own a two year old Boston Terrier and she has been in heat twice in three months. My vet said that they should only come into heat twice a year so I am very conserned, Is it possible that it could be an infection? She smells horrible, worse than ever before. Any advise would be very appreciated.
My dog has been diagnosed with an enlarged heart?
Posted by: | CommentsSissy is a cocker spanial/beagle mix. She is 10 years old. For almost 2 weeks she started coughing (not everyday), and lost some appetite. Took her to the vet and they did a chest x-ray. She has an enlarged heart and it’s starting to push up on trac., but no heart murmur, which surprised the vet, also he feels I brought in early enough. She is now on 2 meds and I have an appointment for her to do an ultrasound on wednesday. Enalapril and Salix (he feels using Salix will prevent any fluid from starting, he said no fluid showed up). He said this will slow her heart down and not have it work so hard, which will make the heart shrink down some, but it will never shrink down to the normal size it should be. Her kidneys are good as well.
Sissy’s appetite is good again, she’s eating like before. My whole problem is, I don’t know how to take this emotionally. It hit me hard last night after the day settled down. Anymore info will be greatly appreciated.
