I just brought home a new puppy and he seems to be always biting my wires attached to my computer so I am afraid that he might accidentally electrocute himself.

My chihuahua has been on antibiotics (Simplicef) for a few days now just for a minor skin rash which looks to be totally gone but his Rx hasn’t finished yet. Now he’s itching his ears quite a bit and shaking his head a lot, I checked his ears out and I don’t see any mites or sores at all but there is a little “crusty” stuff on them. I’m wondering if this could be a reaction to his medication? Should I let him finish the antibiotics or just stop them and take a trip back to the vet ASAP? He doesnt have any other symptoms and seems totally fine other than the problem with his ears, so I have no idea what this is from or if its from his medication at all. If any of you have had this problem with your dog (especially if s/he was on Simplicef) please I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Posted by: | Comments (8)

what would u do in this situation. My dog has NEVER been prevented from heart worms, the vet never mentioned it and as complete first time owners we didn’t know any better. I did ALLOT of research and now know heart worms could be super common in my area !!!(allot of dogs, and mosquitoes) I told my mom but she thinks its just me over exadurating “plus honny the vet would have told us too” BUT HE DIDN’T!!!!!! so now my mom said to just wait until we syptoms IT WILL BE TOO LATE BY THEN THO !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Wat realy pisses me off is my grandpa had cancer and doctors didn’t find it in time so he died even with all the best hospitals and meds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in a way my dog is like some reminder of my grandpa coz my grandpa was crazy for dogs and loved then more than life BUT I DONT WANT MY DOG TO DIE LIKE HIM TOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ugh this isnt only venting i want advice and i need syptoms i can find in advance !!!!!!!!!!!! (AND MY MOM DOESNT HATE DOGS SHE LOVES THEM JUST AS MUCH AS HER DAD DID SO NO “ANIMAL ABUSER” COMMENTS I WILLLL REPORT U !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
he has been ALLOT more lazy he sleeps twice as much as ussual and he moves his position every 5 seconds if awake – also he barks and bites me and my family at random times in small periods of time then rubs his back on the couch and tries to fall asleep (is this ussual behavior because he is making the trans from pup to dog)

Well i actually wasnt there when it happeend, but my friends were together with their dog and playing video games. All of a sudden the dog started panting loudly, and so they tried to give it dog food but it wouldnt eat so then they squirted water in in its mouth and then it started to move around again normally . 3 hours later the dog starrted spitting , pooping like crazy and upon going down stairs in the house it collapsed and stopped moving. My friend who owns the dog assumed it to be dead because it had a heart disease and only had a heart half its normal size..and they burried him in the ground.

could the dog have been possibly alive ? unconscious or if taken to hospitol would it be able to llive within those 3 hours before its death?

Consecutively, for the past few days, my dog has been urinating and pooping on the floor in the kitchen at night, when everyone is asleep. This is probably because although she gets walked before we go to bed, she still has her bowl of food and water out, although I tried to tell my dad to put it away so she can’t eat at night, he’s determined to do things his own way. Therefore, she does her business in the kitchen, sometimes in the early morning before anyone is awake.

Now my dad has gotten it into his head that if she doesn’t smell the scent of her urine, she won’t pee there. So every morning, if and when he finds it, he pours an insane amount of clorox on the floor (undiluted!) and makes either me or my sister mop it up.

I know clorox is really harmful especially if directly inhaled, so imagine how it is for my dog. So now she’s acting a bit strange, like…she’s a bit more subdued, she keeps sneezing, shaking her head as if there were something caught on her nose, and she can’t really sit down. (I’m hoping he didn’t try spanking her or anything) She seems really off, and she was home alone and when I came home the place reeked of clorox and the windows were closed. I immediately opened them and took her outside.

Please, I need to know if my dog is still healthy and what can I do to solve these problems?

I have had my dog since he was born in November of 2004, I was 14. We noticed from the beginning he was kind of a brat – he seemed to dominate everyone in the litter and “attack” them. We also noticed he would shake his head from time to time. Of course we thought nothing of it. As months went on and he grew older his personality began to develop and he became more and more aggressive. Lunging at people, barking incessantly, etc… at about 6 months of age he began to have partial seizures, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sLvC_wxdyk&feature=related
and he began shaking his head more and scratching his left ear. We checked several times for ear mites and we found none. Asked the vet, said it was probably an ear infection or his ears were just dirty so we bought some ear solution and put it in his ear daily. It seemed to help off and on. It worsened almost a year later so we brought him in to the vet to have him looked at — no bacteria or anything. He looked deep into the canal and found nothing, so he prescribed some medicated ear cleaner to see how it worked — zilch! It was okay, then bad, okay, then bad. The same as if we didn’t put anything period. This continued along with the seizures and his short temper for other people. This has gone on and on and on and in 2006, 2008, and 2009 we took him to reputable, good vets in the Dallas area and no one has been able to explain this or find out what is wrong.

He digs deep into his ear and cries, sometimes for an hour. The ear drops, home remedies, etc are too painful for him and so we stopped completely because they don’t work anyway. Seizures are still happening (they don’t occur daily but they do happen as usual every few months or so). We’ve also seen he has a very weak stomach and will throw up most of the time after he eats anything.

Basically, I’m at my wits end. He’s 6½ now and the crying and ear shaking just worsens. I’m tired of spending money at the vet to get the same result. He doesn’t have an ear infection, there is no bacteria of any kind, there are no parasites, and it simply doesn’t make any sense to me. Vets are frustrated, I’m frustrated, and he’s miserable not to mention mean (understandably).

So, anyone here with some knowledge of what this could me? Something a vet may not have come up with yet? I’m pretty close to just calling it quits and taking him on a final trip to the vet which is killing me inside but the shrieking and everything else hurts me that much more.
Out of all the vet visits, blood work was always done. And again — nothing!

It’s like that show Mystery Diagnosis but for dogs.

My dog is a 10 month old boxer/catahoula mix. Yesterday morning she became suddenly lethargic, event to the point where I had to give her water through a turkey baster. She also whimpered when she tried to move stand, and yelped when I picked her up to put her on the couch to sleep. At that point I was under the assumption that she had somehow hurt her neck, or had something lodged in her throat, but then in the evening she had a short period of time where her head was shaking convulsively almost like she was about to seize. I would have taken her to the vet already, but I live in BFE and the clinic doesn’t open till Tuesday. Anyways, today she looked/acted much perkier, until tonight when she again began with the convulsive head shaking. What could cause this, and should I be concerned?
I don’t feed her people food other than the occasional pretzel and nilla wafer, and she is generally an inside dog.

I am going to try to get her to a vet tomorrow
Why poison?

I have a sheltie and he is 13-years-old. He is an indoor dog, so he has not had over-contamination of the sun or pollution. He has never really had any serious health problems, either.
