My dog is about 2 months old. Just today, he’s been acting strangely. He’s had 4 seizures (head shaking), drooling (bubling saliva). His seizure lasts for about 30-40 seconds and he’s well again.

Could he be suffering from epilepsy?
What should I do? I’m a foreigner living here in China and I’m not really confident of their vets. I’ve had my dog vaccinated from a vet around and bought deworming drugs. After using the medicine the vet gave, worms are still coming out from my dog. I’m treating it now.
Any advice you can give will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

My husband and I got him as a puppy and he was 7 when he died. We think he had a heat stroke the end of last summer and it was downhill from there. He started having seizures so we took him to the vet and they put him on seizure medicine. He seemed to be doing better and then he would get worse. He had trouble walking and would bump into things. It got to the point where some days we would have to carry him around, help him eat and I took him to the vet quite a few times in the end. Our vet ran all kinds of tests on him and everything always came back normal so he recommended a vet school so they could do a cat scan. We took him to the vet school where they did the cat scan and some other tests to find out what was wrong with him and if we could save him. We found out he had a brain lesion deep in his brain but it was inoperable. We took him home and took total care of him 24/7 and he seemed to be doing better but then he took a turn for the worse a couple days later and my husband woke me up early one morning and said he was making strange noises. I went and laid next to him and he seemed quiet and I got up to go to another room and heard him moaning in pain. He wouldn’t do it in front of me. He was trashing around and we could tell he was in pain. We made the decision that morning that it was time and it wasn’t fair to let him live his life like this. That was the hardest day of my life. I feel so lost without him. My children are having a hard time dealing with his death also. We just need some advice on how to cope with his loss.

I have been out of town for three weeks and have come back home to find out that my dog has been having this green mucous like substance covering his eyes for almost all of that time. Apparently, my family left him at a friend’s house to while they went on a 3-day vacation. All I know about that visit was that he ate salad, and had been swimming in the pool.

After that incident, I was told that he started to develop the mucous like substance around his eyes, and that it had caked up so bad one day that he couldn’t even open his eyes. My stepfather took some advice from some village idiot, and started putting peroxide on a rag and wiping his eyes with it. If this was good advice, I apologize for the name calling. However, I’m also pretty sure that the peroxide wound up in the dog’s eyes as well. Hopefully there’s no side effect?

Anyway, after I came back this Wednesday, sure enough, there was the green mucous on his eyes, some was crusty, and near the corners of his eyes it was a lighter green and slimy. I noticed that when I looked at his eyes in the light, one was very cloudy, covered with a filmy like substance and the other was as well, but not so much.

So I looked online for what it could be, and found that if it is an eye infection, it should probably be washed with some special dog eye wash that cost around 50-100$. I do not have the money, so I settled for “Pet Solution RX” that I found in petland discounts.

After two days of applying it regularly, I do see a decrease in the mucous around the eyes, however the cloudiness has not gone away. In fact, when I looked at his eye in the light, it looked as if there was an abrasion or some small red dot in the center of his eye, like it was bleeding or something. It really scared me, and I am very worried about my dog.

I do not have much money, so I don’t know if I can take him to the vet. I’m afraid of what it will cost if he needs an operation. Please, if you can, let me know what is wrong with my dog, and maybe how I can fix it myself.

If I am not able to fix it myself, please also let me know, and if you could, refer a good, cheap, vet in the nyc area.

Thank you.
He is a Maltese, about 2-3 years old. Not sure how old he is since we found him abandoned in a yard last year.

It’s a long story… Our dog had puppies on March 1. One of them seemed fine until a week later he became skinny and lethargic, so we took him to the emergency vet. They told us that he had a cleft palate and probably wouldn’t make it very long, and we would have to feed him every two hours around the clock. We were already kind of attached to him, so we decided to give him a chance and took up the challenge. He did pretty well with that until he was about 2 1/2 weeks, when he became lethargic again and was having trouble breathing. We took him to the vet, and she said he probably aspirated and looked like he was on his way out. She gave him some fluids and antibiotics anyway, and I continued to take care of him. He perked back up and is now almost 5 weeks old. He was never quite normal though and that became more and more evident as he got older…

Not only does the poor thing have a cleft palate, but he also has neurological problems (he can’t keep his balance, he is disoriented and unfocused) and may even possibly be partially blind and/or deaf. He can sense light, the vet told us, but he doesn’t seem to be able to see very well. He also does not react to sound. I do not know if this just has to do with his cerebellum as well, but he does not seem to be very aware of his surroundings. The other two puppies are healthy and are starting to wean and love to play. This little guy, however, has never played or chewed or wagged his tail, and it’s just so sad… It’s as if he only lives to eat.

The vet said she is not sure if he will have any quality of life, but anything can happen. He will never be “normal” though. She said that the good things were that he eats well, can move around pretty good, go to the bathroom, and function pretty basically. However, he has so many factors against him. If it were just a cleft palate, okay. If it were just neurological problems, fine. If it were only that he couldn’t see well or couldn’t hear well, we could make it work. BUT it’s all of these things. The vet said that if he were hers, she would probably put him down. But she can see how we could get attached to him and told us to try to start weaning him and see how that goes. The little guy’s name is Chance, because that’s what we are giving him. She told me that it is amazing that I got him this far. But is it meant to be or not? Please give me your thoughts.

Can Chance ever be a happy dog?
Thank you everybody so far for the nice comments. The dog has an appointment to be spayed as soon as the puppies are weaned. I know that this was a mistake; it was not intentional.

And as for the one rude comment, I specifically asked if the dog was suffering and was willing to suck my feelings up and put him to sleep if he was. Two vets told me that he was not suffering. His cleft palate is mild and they told me that he is not in pain as far as their expertise can tell. That is my chief concern, so don’t act like I’m a monster. I find your post disrespectful, because my family, vet, and I have worked hard to give this little fighter a chance. He has such a little spirit, and that what makes it hard.

Please, could you help this man to save 3 wolves in Belgium?
Could you read this story and sign the petition?
It would be kind of you.
Sorry but I think that can influence some protection organization to act.
The man has already brought charges by the police, not against a man but against the park where the animals are mistreated.
We have a local media but he needs any support.
(I don’t usually sign a lot of petitions but this one can have much impact in that part of Belgium, I’m living near this spot.)

Thank you very much.

————————————–…
My friends,

It is a cry for help like a howling wolf that I run !

These 3 wolves are threatened because they no longer suited to a zoo in Belgium.

We have very little time So I ask you to sign this petition ,to distribute to all of your contacts on Facebook !

We need a media tidal wave and you can help us !

I count on you… wolves count on us !

STORY : 3 wolves on death row in Belgium !!!

Monde Sauvage, Aywaille, Belgium.

Three young Arctic wolves are going to die soon. They are in a belgian wildlife park where they are mistreated and beaten by a dog trainer who tries to produce them in entertainment. They live in a pen of 30m² and are fed only when they work. Because they do not progress in the training, they are going to be euthanized soon and replaced by more profitable wolf cubs. They will be 2 years old in May.

These are Alpha, Beta and Omega. The three young wolves are kept in this cage in animal zoo Monde Sauvage, Aywaille in Belgium. All day long. They’re only allowed to be outside for one hour, when they have to perform in the show. If they do not perform well, they don’t get any food. Their former caretaker is passionate about animals. Passionate about wolves. He cared for them, played with them and loves them dearly.

He filed a complaint for animal abuse at the police station in Sprimont. A policeman warned him not to proceed with this case, because it might be dangerous for his life, or that of his pets. He had a contract until November and does not work at Monde Sauvage anymore. He worries about the wolves. And shared lots of other stories and tragedies happening in that zoo.

According to Belgian law, the wolves should be able to run free in a space of 1200m2. There is a section for the adult wolves. But these 3 young ones are kept in this cage, near the section of the birds and owls. They do not receive proper care. Nor are they allowed to run and enjoy themselves.

Whether or not there should be animal parcs like this, is not the issue here. Our concern is the welfare of these three young wolves. We want a guarantee they do not end up as meat for the other animals, such as the lions, tigers and leopards.

Support this cause and sign the petition, you can read the story in French, or use an internet translation program. Thank you.

I just moved to the deep country in missouri. My dog is behind on her shots as of this month(not rabies). Shes been swimming in my lake and playing in the forrest and fields. Shes been a little tired lately maybe for a week or so and than she started diarea. Today she threw up yellow liquid. Than she couldn’t poop for the first time. She even turned down her treats. (she eats rocks normally). Something is really wrong I know my baby. She ate a family of moles a week or two ago and my dad just came down with lyme disease from my property. She doesnt pick up ticks like the rest of us but its very possible. Shes a fixed two year old, old family rednose american pitbull and normally very energetic. She looks really sad. Shes vomited before but it was just food or activity. Shes sick for sure. To see my super strong, ammune dog turning down treats is a big problem. She wont leave my side lately. I cant afford a vet or anything right now. (my dogs used to get the best treatment possible) . What do I do? What could it be. Ill get her to the vet as soon as I can but I have no money right now. I really need advise.
ok let me clarify. I was useing the rocks to show shell eat anything and to turn down treats is crazy. Whats wrong with you people. Just because I lost my business last month doesnt mean I cant take care of her Its a temp problem. My dog lives way better than you ever will shes my whole life. And bury her? yeah you come bury her see if she dont tear your childrens grand childrens children a new asshole. I said she was sick not dead. I was looking for help, sorry I asked. Oh and if I didnt supervise my dog all the time how would I know so much about what shes been doing smarty? She doesnt leave my side. You people are retarded..no offense to the good replys and thanks.
Oh and shes an over grown pit not a stuffed bunny. Your dog has never been as healthy as this girl…ask my vet! Ive spent thousands on her preventative treatment, health and exercise . She only gets the best. Im, just haveing a bad month…a really bad month. Anyway I was thinking diseased moles or ticks she doesnt eat poison shes not stupid…what do I do. I really cant afford anything at this moment not even gas.
Well ive heard a lot of crap but nothing that will help. Vets arn’t magical. They are just trained people. Im looking for temporary help until I can get her in. The first line says I need a real vet…I already know that. I can promise you she wont die. And as far as getting rid of her, I saved her because she was being beat. If you’ve ever owned an abused dog you’d understand. Shes a very aggresive pit and anyone else would have put her down. Its not her fault. Shes mine for life. Im looking for a shot or an IV or whatever, a defintion of a problem so I can solve it thats why I gave symptoms and backround. I can perform the same procedures as a vet. Im just looking for professional advise not stupidity. Oh and Im sure dogs are used to eating moles and other wildlife. They’ve been doing it for maybe 100,000 years.
