Archive for vomiting

My dog was separated from me in October of last year. This month, they found him in Joplin, MO, in the tornado wrecked area of the city. He went missing in Oklahoma! Thank you microchip!

Some rescuers working in the area returned him to me about five days ago.

He was taken to a vet. He had fleas, a harness had been left on him and it rubbed his skin raw, and a part of his ear was missing(scabs all over). When he got to my house he vomited twice, I figured it was due to stress. He had been kept with the rescue people for a few days and they had been feeding him kibble(ick). I started him up on his prey model diet the second day I had him home. He has been eating straight chicken since then because I knew he’d need time to adjust to variety again.

He didn’t vomit for several days and then our AC went out and he’s been vomiting all day. It’s quite hot in the house and I’m trying to keep him cool. We have fans everywhere and I’ve been putting water on him and letting him air dry on top of that.

I just took him out and he has red-brown diarrhea that looks slimy. He has had the runs on and off since he came home. I’m wondering if his problems are due to all the stress the poor guy has been under lately or if I need to do something more. Could it be due to the heat as well?

He’s just a tiny Chihuahua, so I’m surprised that he hasn’t even had an accident in the house since he came home other than his vomiting(which isn’t his fault anyways).

Thanks in advance!
He WAS taken to a vet. I stated that.
Dear Lisa: I am a canine nutritional expert. If you don’t know anything about raw feeding, please don’t answer questions that involve raw feeding. For example, did you know that the RSPCA(ASPCA of Australia and Europe) advises feeding raw meat to dogs and cats? it is very common in other countries.
He’s running around the house again. I’m going to withhold food for a day but with this heat I’m still giving him water. Please continue to give suggestions!

My dog’s name is Patches, he’s a 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier.

First, please don’t tell me to take him to the vet. I already know what to do when my dog is sick! Haha

Second, do you know what bloody diarrhea and vomiting are the symptoms of? What disease could this be?

Last, could a human get this disease from a dog?

loss of appitite & vomiting in dogs?

Posted by: | Comments (5)

My 4 year old German Wirehaired Pointer had FHO surgery on his hip a month ago & is still uncomfortable. This past week, he hasn’t been eating as he used to,taking his time & picking at his food, and he has also been feeling “sick to his belly”. I can tell he isnt feeling well by the look he gives me & he vomits a little bit of food maybe once a day at night. Is this normal for a dog still in pain from surgery? I gave him some aspirin, but I stopped because it seemed to make his tummy worst. Any “home remedies” to sooth him? I heard of giving plain yogart.

She has no Apetite at all. She’s behaving oddly, very weak and lethargic. I took her to the vet and he rectaly checked her temp and noticed it was bloody so he did a fec exam and a parvo test and nothing came up. He treated her with some fluids an antibiotic and something to settle her stomach. He also sent me home with some penecilin. She went directly to sleep and when I got her up to take to bed she had very bloody stool. ( it smelled almost like rotting meat if that means anything) I’m very worried and plan to talk to vet again. What could it be??

I thought my dog had worms so I got a wormer and wormed her yesterday. She has been vomiting today and we noticed in the yellow vomit that she had some dark brown and very stringy worm looking like things in the runny liquid. I called the vet and they said it was normal for her to be vomiting but she has just spewed up her dinner. I am a little worried as I can’t find good enough photos to decide which type of worm it could be and if vomiting is in fact normal and how long should I accept her vomiting before I should be concerned.

She hasn’t lost her appetite and is drinking water but looks miserable and has a little bloated belly.

Can anyone shed any light???
Thanx everyone – very good advice indeed!! I will plan to take her to the vet tomorrow just in case, but being 11pm an no one to call and ask at this hour is keeping me up. The wormer was called Milbemax and its 1 tablet for 5 to 25kg dogs.

You guys are legends!! Thanx a million for your very fast responses. I truely appreciate it.

My dog Taz saw the vet today for vomiting and diarrhea. The vet told my husband that Taz would be sent home with some medication for vomiting, but he was given metronidazole. I know that metronidazole is good for treating some intestinal infections but I’ve never heard of it being used for vomiting. Any vets/vet techs care to share some input?

My husband swears that the medication was supposed to be for vomiting, and says the vet said nothing about antibiotics. I’m a RN in the emergency department so I’m quite familiar with the drug (in people). I’m wondering if they gave us metronidazole instead of metoclopramide (reglan), but even reglan isn’t the best choice for his vomiting since he has diarrhea too.

Please only respond if you know are familiar with these medications. I don’t need a link to wiki for flagyl. My vet’s office is closed now, and won’t be open until Monday.

I*** I asked this question a few minutes ago and the people that responded all had nasty things to say and threatened to report me for animal abuse. I guess that they didn’t read the actual details and just jumped to a conclusion. So, if you are going to respond to this, please read the details in full if you have any idea as to what might be wrong with him.

I have a 7 year old lab. Last week my dog started having trouble eating. He would chock or gag when he would try to swallow his food. He did it for 2-3 days, so I started putting water in his food, this seemed to help. He has since had no problems eating.

On Saturday I woke up to him moaning. I thought he just wanted me to get up because he was hungry, or wanted to go out. He stoped moaning as soon as I got out of bed, so I didn’t worry about it. A few hours later he was moaning again. I thought his ears might be bothering him, so I cleaned his ears out. Later on I noticed that he was limping. He wasn’t putting any weight on one of his back paws. I looked in his paw and tried cleaning it with warm water to see if there was something in there. It was fine. Nothing is swollen and he doesn’t seem to be in pain when you touch is paw, his leg or his hip, it’s definitely not broken, I don’t even think it’s sprained. Today he was limping a little, but he seems to be able to put weight on that back paw again, and doing much better.

Tonight, he has vomited 5 times in 3 hours. He just seems to be his food that he is throwing up. He is not the kind of dog hat gets into stuff, so I don’t think he ate anything without me knowing. It just seems weird, that out of no where, my normally healthy dog is having issues eating and walking. His mood hasn’t changed much, he is a little more mellow, but still seems pretty happy. He has not moaned since Saturday and is not acting like he is in any kind of pain whats so ever.

I have another lab that has been drinking the same water and eating the same food as him and is perfectly fine. He is a former guide dog, and has been eating this brand of dog food since he came to me. I am taking him to the vet in the morning, but I’m very concerned. Any ideas of what could be going on with him?
Thank you kate and Danielle for actually reading the whole problem! : )
Once again, he IS going to the vet in the morning at 7am, first appointment.
I called the animal hospital on Saturday and they suggested I monitor his limping and give him Asprin for the pain if he was still moaning. I did not give him any pains meds since he stoped moaning and didn’t seem to be in any pain. Also I was nervous about giving him medication that he’d never taken before.
ISHS91- That is ineteresting, I have been taking my dogs to a dog park lately. I wonder if he got that, while running around where a million other dogs have gone to the bathroom.

My mom’s puppy ate a sock over the summer and so I’m formiluar with how he would be vomiting and not be able to go to the bathroom if he had some kind of blockage. And he is the good dog, who only chews his toys, none of which are plush toys.

Why is my dog vomiting mucus and foam?

Posted by: | Comments (5)

My 5 month old chihuahua first began vomiting his food about two days ago. He hasn’t wanted to eat anything since then, he has no energy and doesn’t play anymore. Last night he started vomiting mucus and his mouth gets foamy. I read that it can be because of the weather change because its been raining but hes been sick for 3 days now. He has his first parvo shot, could he have parvo or what can it be?

My dog wouldn’t stop vomiting?

Posted by: | Comments (8)

Hershey, my 17 month old Shihpoo, was vomiting really bad last night. He threw up all of his food and then began throwing up yellow foam and it eventually turned white and fluffy. He threw up at least 15 times around 5 minutes apart. Also, there were sausage pieces in his vomit. My dad had been sneaking him sausage all day. Might I add, this all happened yesterday. He’s not been sick or anything. He’s still playful and is being himself. He’s up to date on all his shots and gets his heartworm every month. After I thought he had finished vomiting I gave him a nice bath. He made it all through the night without throwing up anymore. This morning his poop was normal, no diarrhea or blood. Instead of giving him his dog food, I gave him some fresh rice and boiled hamburger meat. He’s kept that down so far and has been drinking his water. He seems to be fine right now, I just want to make sure he stays fine! Do you think it was just an upset stomach? I mean it scared me. I’ve never seen anything vomit that much and it just kept coming and coming. He just got his yearly vaccinations last week, do you think that has anything to do with it? Do you think he’s fine now?
