I used to use Iams and Science Diet………….Pretty expensive…………… Did a lot of research,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Purina came up as best buy……………! Good nutrition…………! Only good thing about the Iams and Science,,,,,,,,,, was the stools weren’t as much as with the Purina………………………..! good Luck…………………..!=)
We use Authority Harvest Baked. Its kind of pricey about $40 for a 30lb. bag, but it is the best we have found so far. Our vet just told us to find a food that has corn meal or wheat meal as low as possible on the ingredients list or not on it at all.
I use Nupro because it is middle of the road in price and the cheaper dogs food seem to give my dogs gas. I also use lamb only because his paw swells up if he eats chicken ingredients. If you are are searching for something a little less expensive, go for the cheaper brand with some salmon oil for their coat.
I tried the cheaper not so much price but in ingredients and I had to feed my dogs 4 time as much to keep them up so I tried Purina dog chow and my dogs are doing just fine and with a 50lb bag around $20.
it’s not bad on your pocket book
As for Purina dog chow:
ingredients
Ground yellow corn2, poultry by-product meal1, corn gluten meal2, soybean meal, beef tallow8 preserved with mixed-tocopherols , brewers rice3, dicalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate
1Meat by-products: Pet grade meat by-products consist of organs and parts either not desired, or condemned, for human consumption. This can include bones, blood, intestines, lungs, ligaments, heads, feet, and feathers.
2Corn: Corn products are difficult for dogs to digest.
Those whole grains have had the starch removed for corn starch powder and the oil extracted for corn oil or they are just hulls and other remnants from the milling process. Grains used that are truly whole have usually been deemed unfit for human consumption because of mold, contaminants, poor quality or poor handling practices, which is obvious by the fact that most pet food recalls are the result of toxic grain products such as Corn or Wheat. Pet food is one of worlds most synthetic edible products, containing virtually no whole ingredients.
I want to give my pets the best nutrition possible, so I read labels and articles that help me understand and interpret the ingredients. Then, I make my dogs a stew every week with chicken breasts, shredded carrot, greens and what ever I feel like and use this stew with a cup of kibble. I have hear many older vets who claim they did not see as much cancer in dogs and cats when people were feeding more home prepared people food and less commercial prepared foods.

I use Innova dog food because it is considered free of carbs (brow rice) and is made with quality animal protein.

I don’t want a food that is basically a corn biscuit.
Iams
Chicken, corn meal2, ground whole grain sorghum, chicken by-product meal1, ground whole grain barley meal, fish meal, chicken fat, dried beet pulp
