What can stop my dog from biting her leg?
ByMy golden retriever has been biting and licking her leg… the skin is tender there. We’ve tried that bitter apple and every other bitter spray… she still bites through it. We even used paper towels to wrap it then duct tape. She still bites through it. We tried pepper sauce, she still bites through it! Anyone know what can stop my dock from biting her leg? A cone around it’s head maybe???
Thanks.
BTW she is an old dog

Put the cone on the dog and keep it there until the leg heals. if after the heals, she starts biting it again check with the vet for professional advice.

You didn’t say how old your dog is. If it is a young dog it may be having growing pains. Glucosamine may help with this. It may also be an allergy. Talk with your vet about possibilities and solutions.

Take her to the veterinarian so he can figure out WHY she’s doing it. Treating symptoms doesn’t solve the problem. For that you need to know the cause of the symptoms and fix that.

You need to address the reason why she is chewing her leg. An imbalanced thyroid, a food allergy, boredom, and psychological stress can all cause dogs to chew themselves. I would get her examined, including a blood panel with thyroid. Also, check her kibble and change her diet if there is any corn or wheat in the top five ingredients.
