Why does one of my dogs have blue eyes when the rest have brown?

By

My dog had a litter a few weeks ago and all the puppies have brown eyes, expect one. She has really pretty blue eyes. She isnt blind, and she’s active and normal like all the other puppies. She doesnt seem sick or anything, she just stands out a lot O _ o The parents dont have blue eyes so why does she?

Poor breeding can cause this.

We need more information – How old are the pups? More importantly, What breed are they?

It got different genes

Looks like that puppy has the recessive genes.

4

It could just be a mis match in the genetic codes. Which would make her have blue eyes. Nothing is wrong, there was just a genetic mutation during fertelization.

5

Even though the parents don’t have blue eyes they may have a blue eye gene. Its just that they have a more dominant brown eye gene. But when they passed it on the puppy received the blue eye gene. The other puppies received the brown eye gene.

6

Its in their genetics to be different from their parents

7

If your pup is a husky, its probably normal, if it isnt and its eyes are still blue after a week or so, then it might be blind, but dont jump to conclusions

8

evidently the parents carry the gene for blue eyes.

Simple as this. She’s the oddball.

Me and my half sister, who both had the same dad. Both have blue/green eyes, so hazel I believe.
However, both mothers and the rest of our siblings have brown eyes.

Me and her are the oddballs of our families names. Go figure.
Same can happen to dogs and cats :)

She must’ve gotten the the recessive gene from one of her relatives.
Such as if you breed her with a dog with brown eyes one of her pups could get hazel blue or brown eyes maybe even all these colors. You have to check her linage to find out what the other dogs in her line had. She could have a lot of different colors in her bloodline. And most importantly what breed is she???

its her genes. the brown eyed gene is dominate. but somewere back in the mom or dads family someone had blue eyes. like the dads parents could be one blue eyed and one brown eyed the dad got the brown because it might have been dominate and then the puppy later got the blue eye gene

Blue eyes are a recessive genes. Blue eyes main are from Australian Shepherds. You are correct the eyes are okay.

Both parent dogs have the recessive gene so the puppy got it. Remember, each puppy came from separate eggs.

Just like humans do. Both parents may carry the blue gene, but both have brown eyes. Brown eyes are a dominant gene, while blue is recessive. It’s nothing wrong I’m sure, so it’s nothing out of the normal. I’m sure she is a pretty puppy though.

Except in certain breeds, where it is normal, it simply means that BOTH parents carried the recessive gene for blue eyes. It showed up in this particular puppy. No problem. Enjoy the added beauty of your canine companion.
