Why is my dog (9) urinating (blood) in the house?

By

She very rarely has accidents but yesterday in 12 hours she did it blatantly 3 times (kitchen, her bed, our bed) even though she had only just been outside. The third time it had a lot of blood in it. I am taking her to the vets first thing tomorrow, but in the meantime I am just curious. A year or two ago she had a bladder stone removed which was the size of a golf ball. She had blood in her urine then. She has been on medication since to try and prevent them from forming again. A few times recently she tries to urinate but not much always comes out. Could she have bladder stones again or does it sound like something else? I am just wondering because she keeps doing it in the house. I am worried because a week or two before my other dog had to be put to sleep he kept having accidents in the house. It doesn’t mean that she is nearing the end does it? If she needs an operation again I’m not sure how she will go with the anasthetic because she has a bad heart.

you need to ask your vet

2

Probably because she’s inside.

3

Stones or a bladder infection are both likely. Call the vet.

Could bea kidney infection or something like that. Better take the dog to the vet.

6

She has another stone.

7

Take her to the vet as soon as possible!!!

My nine year old dog was very ill for a long time last year and I expected her to die. Now she is back to normal and acting like a puppy.Don’t despare perhaps its just hormonal.
If your dog is a Dalmatian they produce more uric acid than any other dog, however I am not sure if this creates bladder stones or kidney stones. Perhaps she has had blood in her urine for a while, however its more difficult to see this when they urinate outside.

Its possible that she is urinating inside because of grief over your other dogs death, or it could be because of the lingering smells. Grief would not create blood in her urine, however its possibly a side effect from her medication. Try Googling her meds and the side effects.Nevertheless she must go to the vets ASAP.

In any event you must re-clean the carpets where she and your other dog have urinated or defecated

After a dog has urinated or defecated in the house, obviously you will clean this up. Perhaps you think that you have got rid of the smell and your friends will possibly confirm this, however your dog will still be aware of a smell. Your dog thinks that your house is a bathroom; dogs have a much greater sense of smell than we have. Give the floor and carpets another good scrub.

In the UK there is a washing powder to use in washing machines called Ariel get the BIOLOGICAL version Or get some special cleaning solution from the pet shop and re clean your floor with this.

Unfortunatly if your dog has lost control of its bladder this won’t help.

It maybe a UTI, kindey stone or even kidney failure. Your dog needs to see a vet right away.

If your vet didn’t he/she needs to put your dog on a special food to prevent bladder stones. It probably is another bladder stone but you are correct in taking your baby to the vet to get it checked out. If they do it again shortly before you go, take some of it with you like in a ziplock to show the vet what the dog is doing and if it is bladder stones see about a special food specially made to prevent the bladder stones. I used to have a miniature schnauzer over ten years ago and she had them as a pup when I was trying to house break her at that. AFter she had the surgery she was able to hold her liquid until she went outside even though when she did it she was trying to go outside to do it. She got put on a special food for bladder stones at the time and she liked it.

she could have crystals. get her to he vet, meds can dissolve these. my sons dog developed them and the perfect house dog turn began urinating all over the place. when it hurts, they instinctively move to another area associating pain with where they last went.
